The ocean's own
microneedles —
working while you rest.

Spicule Dermal Therapy is a form of bio-microneedling that uses microscopic marine-derived spicules to create controlled skin stimulation. At Roses & More, the formulation and treatment approach are chosen according to your skin’s current condition rather than applied as a fixed protocol.

SPICULE DERMAL THERAPY · BIO-MICRONEEDLING

Not a facial.
Not microneedling.
Something older,
and more elegant.

Spicules are microscopic structures derived from marine sponges. When incorporated into professional skin treatments, they provide a distinctive form of controlled physical stimulation without the use of a powered needling device or thermal energy.

The experience is different from conventional microneedling. Rather than selecting a fixed treatment simply because it appears on a menu, we first look at your skin as it presents on the day — its sensitivity, barrier condition, texture, congestion and what it appears ready to tolerate.

From there, the spicule formulation and the wider treatment sequence are chosen deliberately. That is the Roses & More difference: the technology is one tool, while the real work is understanding how and when to use it for the skin in front of us.

Bio-Microneedling · How It Works

Four things to understand
about spicule therapy.

The treatment combines controlled physical stimulation with carefully selected formulations. The exact response varies with skin condition, formulation and treatment intensity.

I.
Microscopic physical stimulation

Spicules are worked gently into the skin, creating a distinctive tactile stimulation without the use of a powered needling device or thermal energy. Treatment intensity is adjusted according to the skin in front of us.

II.
A treatment that unfolds after the session

Clients may continue to feel the characteristic spicule sensation for a period after treatment. Redness, tingling or mild flaking can occur depending on the formulation, intensity and individual skin response.

III.
Formulation matters

The spicules are only one part of the treatment. Roses & More works with different formulations and supporting products according to the skin concern, barrier condition and treatment goal identified during assessment.

IV.
Aftercare matters too

Because the skin may remain sensitive following treatment, the days afterwards are treated as part of the protocol. We provide guidance on cleansing, moisturising, sun protection and when to resume stronger home-care actives.

After your treatment

What you may notice
in the days afterwards.

Skin response varies from person to person. Some clients notice very little; others experience temporary tingling, warmth, sensitivity or flaking. We explain what is appropriate for your skin before you leave.

Immediately after
Freshly treated skin

The skin may look slightly pink or feel warm or prickly after treatment. This can vary with treatment intensity, formulation and individual sensitivity.

First 24 hours
Keep things simple

Avoid unnecessary friction and follow the home-care guidance provided by your therapist. Gentle cleansing, moisturising and sun protection are usually the priorities.

Following days
Possible dryness or flaking

Depending on your skin and the protocol used, mild dryness or flaking can occur. Do not pick, scrub or exfoliate the skin. Allow it to settle naturally.

As skin settles
Review before repeating

We look at how your skin responded before deciding what comes next. The following session may repeat, adjust or change the treatment depending on what your skin is showing us.

✦

Aftercare is part of the treatment plan. We will tell you what to use, what to avoid and when to resume stronger home-care products. If anything feels unusual or more intense than expected, contact us rather than trying to treat it yourself.

"We do not judge a treatment only by what happens in the room. How your skin responds afterwards helps us decide what it needs next."

The formulation difference

We do not start with a formula.
We start with your skin.

Spicule therapy is not one fixed treatment at Roses & More. If it is appropriate for your skin, the formulation and supporting products are chosen according to what we see on the day.

What we look at first
The skin in front of us.
Not a preset menu.

Before selecting a spicule approach, we consider the skin's current sensitivity, barrier condition, congestion, texture, hydration, visible pigmentation and how it has responded to previous treatments.

Those observations help us decide whether spicule therapy is appropriate at all — and, if it is, how gently or intensively to work and which formulation is the better fit.

How we choose the formulation
Different priorities.
Different treatment choices.

We work with a range of spicule formulations designed around different skin priorities. The choice is not made from the treatment name alone; it is matched to the condition and tolerance of your skin at that appointment.

The same client may therefore receive a different formulation or treatment intensity on a later visit. The technology stays the same. The judgement around how to use it can change.

Formulation directions we may consider

These are treatment directions rather than promises of a specific result. The formulation used depends on your skin assessment and may be adjusted as your skin changes.

✦
Congestion & Oil Balance

For skin where oiliness, congestion or blemish-proneness is the main concern

✦
Brightness & Uneven Tone

For dullness, uneven-looking tone or visible pigmentation concerns

✦
Firmness & Texture

For clients focused on texture, firmness and overall skin quality

✦
Sensitivity & Barrier Support

For skin that needs a more cautious approach because it is reactive or easily stressed

✦
Hydration & Comfort

For skin where dryness, dehydration or comfort is the immediate priority

✦

We are happy to explain what we are using and why. The formulation is never chosen simply because it is the most intensive option — it is chosen because it is the most appropriate option for your skin that day.

"Skin tone matters. So does skin history, sensitivity and how the skin responds to inflammation. We assess all of them before choosing the treatment approach."

Skin tone & treatment planning

Individual assessment
before assumptions.

Spicule therapy is non-thermal, which makes it different from treatments that rely on heat, light or radiofrequency. But non-thermal does not mean that every skin has identical sensitivity or zero risk of irritation or pigment change.

For medium to deeper skin tones, we pay particular attention to previous post-inflammatory pigmentation, current inflammation, barrier condition and treatment intensity. Those factors help us decide whether Spicule is appropriate and how cautiously to proceed.

The principle is the same across every skin tone: assess first, choose the formulation and intensity deliberately, and review the skin's response before deciding what comes next.

Candidacy

Is spicule therapy
right for you?

Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes another treatment makes more sense. Suitability depends on what your skin is showing us at the time of treatment, so we assess first rather than assuming that the treatment you arrived asking for is necessarily the treatment you need.

We may consider spicule therapy when
  • ✦

Texture, congestion or uneven-looking skin is a current priority.

  • ✦

The skin appears able to tolerate controlled physical stimulation.

  • ✦

You are looking for a non-thermal treatment approach.

  • ✦

A particular spicule formulation fits the skin condition and treatment goal identified during assessment.

  • ✦

You understand the expected post-treatment sensitivity and can follow the recommended aftercare.

We may pause, adapt or choose something else when
  • —

The skin is unusually irritated, inflamed, injured or highly reactive on the day.

  • —

The barrier appears too compromised for the intended treatment intensity.

  • —

Recent procedures, products or other factors make it sensible to wait.

  • —

Your current skin priority would be better served by another modality or a gentler treatment sequence.

  • —

There is anything in your history or current presentation that needs clarification before proceeding.

Coming in for Spicule does not obligate you to have Spicule. If assessment suggests that your skin needs something different that day, we will explain why and recommend the more appropriate route.

Questions about
Spicule Dermal Therapy.

Is it the same as conventional microneedling?

No. Conventional microneedling uses a powered device with needles. Spicule therapy uses microscopic marine-derived spicules that are worked into the skin without a powered needling device or thermal energy. The experience, treatment planning and aftercare are therefore different. We use each modality for different reasons rather than treating them as interchangeable.

What might my skin feel like afterwards?

Response varies. Some clients notice temporary prickling, warmth, sensitivity, dryness or mild flaking; others experience very little. We will explain what to expect based on the formulation and intensity used. Avoid picking, scrubbing or exfoliating skin that is flaking, and follow the cleansing, moisturising, sun-protection and home-care guidance provided after your session.

Can sensitive or reactive skin have spicule therapy?

Possibly, but sensitivity is a reason to assess more carefully — not a reason to assume Spicule is automatically the gentler choice. We look at your current barrier condition, reactivity, recent treatments and what your skin appears able to tolerate. We may reduce intensity, choose a different formulation, select another modality or postpone treatment if the skin is too unsettled on the day.

What about medium to deeper skin tones?

Skin tone is considered as part of the assessment, particularly where there is a history or concern around post-inflammatory pigmentation. Spicule therapy is non-thermal, but that does not mean every skin has zero risk of irritation or pigment change. We choose the formulation and treatment intensity with the individual skin response in mind rather than making a blanket promise based on skin tone alone.

How do you choose the formulation?

We look first at your skin's current condition and treatment priority. Depending on what we see, we may consider a formulation direction focused on congestion and oil balance, brightness and uneven tone, firmness and texture, sensitivity and barrier support, or hydration and comfort. The choice can change from one visit to another as your skin changes.

Can Spicule be combined with other treatments?

Sometimes. Roses & More works with several modalities, but more treatment is not automatically better treatment. Whether Spicule should stand alone, sit within a wider sequence or be separated from another procedure depends on your skin, the treatment involved and appropriate timing. We decide the order deliberately rather than applying a fixed combination package.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single course that suits everyone. Some clients may have an occasional Spicule session; others may use it as part of a longer treatment plan. We prefer to see how your skin responds before deciding what should happen next rather than selling a predetermined number of sessions in advance.

Do I need to know which Spicule treatment to book?

No. Tell us what you are noticing about your skin and what you would like help with. We will assess your skin, explain whether Spicule is appropriate and, if it is, choose the formulation and treatment approach with you.
