Ultrasound can produce several mechanical effects in tissue and fluid. Their significance depends on the device parameters, treatment medium, exposure and application.
Acoustic streaming
Sound waves can create directional movement in fluids. SonNext identifies acoustic streaming as one of the mechanical effects used by its non-thermal platform.
Cavitation
Ultrasound can interact with microscopic gas pockets in fluid. Cavitation is also widely studied in ultrasound-assisted transdermal delivery, although the degree of skin permeability change depends strongly on the acoustic parameters used.
Shear stress
Mechanical forces generated by acoustic waves can act on cells, membranes and the surrounding fluid environment. SonNext includes shear stress within the non-thermal effects underlying its technology.

Start with the skin
We first establish the treatment objective, the skin's current condition and whether SonNext is appropriate for the role being considered.
Select the treatment medium
A suitable coupling medium or professional formulation is selected for the protocol. Ultrasound-assisted transdermal delivery is a real research field, but penetration varies with formulation and acoustic parameters; we do not promise a fixed multiple of topical absorption.
Deliver distributed acoustic energy
The applicator is moved according to the treatment protocol so that non-focused ultrasound is distributed across the intended area rather than concentrated into a thermal focal point.
Decide what comes next
Where SonNext is part of a composed treatment, its position in the sequence is deliberate. The order follows the treatment objective rather than a fixed technology stack.

Is SonNext the same as HIFU?
No. HIFU uses focused ultrasound and intentionally concentrates energy at depth, where thermal effects form part of the treatment mechanism. SonNext is designed around non-focused, non-thermal ultrasound and uses mechanical acoustic effects instead.
Does SonNext heat the skin?
SonNext is designed as a non-thermal ultrasound platform. Ultrasound energy can produce some temperature change under certain conditions, so “non-thermal” should not be read as a claim that physics allows absolutely zero temperature change. The intended mechanism is mechanical rather than a deliberately created thermal treatment zone.
Can ultrasound help products penetrate the skin?
Ultrasound-assisted transdermal delivery, often called sonophoresis, is well established as a research field. The extent of permeability enhancement depends on factors such as ultrasound frequency, intensity, exposure time and the substance being used. We therefore do not promise that every product is delivered to a particular depth or by a fixed multiple.
