An acne facial in Singapore should not begin with a fixed protocol. At Roses & More, we read the skin first — because congestion, inflammation, barrier compromise and post-acne change can require very different treatment decisions.

Why a Fixed Acne Protocol Can Miss the Point
“Acne” tells us something important about what a client is experiencing. It does not, by itself, tell us what treatment should follow.
One person may arrive with congestion and noticeable oiliness. Another may have active inflammatory breakouts alongside skin that appears sensitised from repeated use of strong products. Someone else may have relatively little active acne remaining but be concerned about post-acne marks and changes in texture.
The concern has the same name. The skin in front of us does not necessarily present the same way.
That distinction matters because an intervention that appears appropriate for one presentation may be unnecessary, poorly timed or simply too much for another.
Two clients can both say acne. The skin can tell two different stories — and treatment should respond to the story, not just the label.
What We Read Before an Acne Facial
Before deciding what belongs in the session, we look carefully at what the skin is presenting that day.
This is part of the same facial assessment approach we use more broadly at Roses & More. With acne-prone skin, several observations can materially change the treatment decision.
- Visible congestion and the pattern in which it appears
- Signs of active inflammation
- Current sensitivity and visible barrier condition
- Oiliness, dryness or a combination of both
- Post-acne marks and changes in texture
- Recent products, treatments or routine changes shared with us
- How the skin has responded since the previous visit
None of those observations exists in isolation. We are interested in how the presentation fits together and what that suggests about an appropriate next step.
Why Barrier Condition Can Change the Plan
Acne-prone skin is not automatically strong skin.
Someone can experience breakouts while also presenting with sensitivity, tightness, dryness or other signs that make a highly active session a poor starting point. Previous attempts to control breakouts can sometimes leave the skin less tolerant of further intervention.
This is why “stronger” is not automatically “better”.
If the skin appears poorly prepared for the intervention we might otherwise consider, restoration may need to come first. That is not avoiding the acne concern. It is recognising that the condition of the skin affects what can sensibly be asked of it.
Clearing is not the only objective. We also want the skin to remain comfortable, functional and able to tolerate what comes next.
Different Tools for Different Presentations
Roses & More works with more than one treatment mechanism for acne-prone skin. Depending on what we see, a session may draw on different combinations of supportive skincare, targeted treatment techniques and technologies such as NOVA plasma.
The important point is not that we have a particular machine available. It is that the presence of a machine does not decide the treatment.
Different plasma modalities, for example, give us different treatment possibilities. Whether a particular modality belongs in a session — and how it should be used — depends on the presentation, the objective and the condition of the skin at that point.
Sometimes a more active approach makes sense. Sometimes a gentler, supportive session is the better starting point. Sometimes the sequence needs to change before the intensity does.
That is a more useful way to think about technology: not as the treatment itself, but as one mechanism available within a larger treatment decision.
The Skin Read Happens Again at Every Visit
Assessment is not something we complete once and then file away.
Skin changes.
A client who presents with significant inflammation at an early visit may look quite different several sessions later. Another person may arrive after travel, stress, a change in homecare or an unusually reactive week and need a different approach from the one used previously.
So we look again.
The fact that a treatment was appropriate last time does not automatically make it appropriate today. Equally, personalisation does not require us to change something that is working simply for the sake of variety.
The question is always whether the treatment still makes sense for what the skin is presenting now.
Acne Treatment Through the Skin Sequencing™ Lens
This is where acne treatment connects to the larger framework we call Skin Sequencing™ .
We begin with assessment, define the objective, consider the mechanisms available, then decide what belongs in the treatment, in what order, at what intensity and at what point.
It also explains why two people seeking an personalised facial for what sounds like the same concern may leave with different treatment paths.
The aim is not to make acne treatment complicated. It is to avoid pretending that a complex, changing skin presentation can always be reduced to a fixed routine.
The treatment does not lead and ask the skin to follow. We read first, then decide what the skin appears ready for.
What This Means When You Come In
You do not need to diagnose your own skin before booking with us.
You can simply tell us what you have been noticing — breakouts, congestion, oiliness, sensitivity, post-acne marks, or something that has changed and you cannot quite explain.
We begin there.
We look at the skin, talk through what has been happening, consider what appears appropriate and explain what we propose to do before we do it.
If your skin appears ready for a more active acne-focused treatment, that may be the direction we take. If it appears to need something gentler first, we will say so.
An acne facial should not be something your skin receives simply because that was the name on the booking.
The booking tells us why you came. The skin helps us decide what happens next.
Start With What Your Skin Is Showing
If you are dealing with breakouts, congestion or post-acne concerns, you do not need to work out the treatment yourself. Tell us what you have been noticing and we can begin with a skin read.
